WEEDS! WEEDS! WEEDS!
You probably have noticed the weeds that are popping up in home lawns everywhere in this area. The reason for this bumper crop of weeds is the severe drought of last year and the recent rains. The drought weakened our lawns and weeds love lawns that are not full and lush. The seeds for these weedy plants have been lurking in the top soil since last season, just waiting to pop up. Thinning grass and rain have given these seeds the perfect conditions to grow.
It is important that you mow or remove these weeds before they go to seed. If the weeds are allowed to flower and seed, you will see an even bigger crop of weeds now and next year. A little work of digging out the weeds each week can control the problem. Another option recommended by Ricky Heine, Manager for the Star Ranch Golf Club is to apply Scott's Southern Weed and Feed. Ricky says this product is very effective in getting rid of broadleaf weeds. He also said it is VERY IMPORTANT TO READ AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THE PRODUCT. Another option is to hire a service to treat your lawn for these pesky weeds. This is an easy option and can be cost effective.
Your neighbors will appreciate your efforts to control your weeds. Not only are they unsightly but seeds spread to everyone else's lawns as well.
