The yard of the month program is intended to inspire residents of the Star Ranch Community to take pride in the appearance and upkeep of their yards and the exterior of their quarters. Since the YOM will mainly deal with curb appeal, nominations will be for front and side yard joint consideration only. Yards will be judged by the yard committee on the last Sunday of every month to determine the best kept yard. Judging will be in the afternoon hours. This is to let every one know when to have their yards looking their best. Judging criteria will be based on the opinions of the committee.
This is a community program run by the community in assistance with Goodwin Management homeowners association. The program will run from March thru September.
Currently yard of the month will consist of one house selected per month. Once the phases north of Gattis road are closer to completion more houses will be awarded the yard of the month sign, with a drawing to determine who will win the grand prize of a cash certificate. ( I anticipate the second yard of the month sign coming into play in 2010.)
Limitations:
The Yard of the Month can only be won twice during the year, cannot be in consecutive months. Based upon the assessment of the committee, it is possible that an area could be excluded from having a YOM.
Evaluation Checklist:
1. Lawn mowed neatly; low spots filled and topsoil; no to minimal brown spots in grass
2. Lawn and flowerbeds are free of leaves and grass clipping; area walks swept
3. Sidewalks and driveways edged (including around foundations, patios, trees
4. Very few weeds in lawn and cracks of sidewalks/driveway
5. Mulching flowerbeds/bushes/trees
6. Appearance and condition of flowers
7. Bushes trimmed neatly (no higher than bottom of window sills except for corner or specimen bushes and trees
8. Front yard clear of clutter, garbage cans, litter, etc. (most visible area from street)
9. Overall appearance is it neat and clean (water hoses neatly stored when not in use)
10. Must be current with their homeowners dues and be without any current citations or violations.
The winner of the Yard of the Month will be provided with a decorative sign for display indicating their winning yard as well as photos on the Star Ranch Website.
